The Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA) is now seriously reaching out to embrace DVD and e-commerce by representing brick-and-mortar retailers as well as online merchants of the fast-growing format. The VSDA has formed two ad hoc committees: one for DVD and one for e-commerce, both chaired by Mitch Lowe, owner of eight Video Droid stores in Northern California, Vice President of Business Development for NetFlix.com, and a past chairman of VSDA. The two groups are scheduled to hold their first meeting at the July VSDA convention in Los Angeles. A goal of the VSDA is to bring into its fold of representation online merchants. While Amazon.com is a VSDA member others such as Buy.com, Hollywood Videoís Reel.com, DVD Express and Big Star Entertainment are not. These and independent retailers selling and renting DVD and such chains as Best Buy and Suncoast Motion Picture Company will be invited to participate on the committees. The committees will focus initially on how to grow the DVD category even faster and coming up with solutions to problems in adding DVD to VHS inventory. For more information, contact Mitch Lowe at 818 385 1500.
