Widescreen TV Set Sales Booming In Europe

According to a report newly issued by the market information company GfK, widescreen TV set sales are booming in Europe, especially in the United Kingdom. The UK is now the largest the market in Europe for widescreen sets, accounting for 25 percent of all TV set sales. The next highest is France with 21 percent of sales, followed by Germany with 19 percent. Reportedly, 11 percent of the TV sets sold in the 12 months from January 1998 to January 1999 in the UK were widescreen and represented 30 percent of the total TV market value. Twenty-eight-inch widescreen sets represented 59 percent, with 30-inch widescreen sets making up 27 percent of the market. As prices continue to fall, GfK reports general growth in widescreen sets 28-inch and over.
