Columbia TriStar Home Video has made a decision to re-author their recently released DVD edition of Lawrence Kasdanís 1985 western ""Silverado."" The decision was made after it was brought to the attention of the supervisors at the Sony Hi-Definition Center (Columbia TriStarís principal DVD mastering facility) that it was mastered in a non-theatrical aspect ratio. The DVD, released on June 1, 1999, was mastered in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio instead of its theatrical 2.40:1.Columbia TriStar does not plan to recall the initial batch of discs that were shipped to retailers instead opting to simply re-author the title. Sources indicate the new edition should be available by late June or early July. Consumers who have already purchased the title and who might be interested in receiving the new edition can do so by returning their copy to the retail outlet of the initial purchase for an exchange. Columbia TriStar Home Video will not be handling any exchanges. There are no plans to make any changes to the disc jacket since the jackets were prepared correctly for the initial batch. Therefore, consumers may want to allow store personnel to visually inspect the new disc before finalizing any exchanges.
