""Titanic"" To Set Sail On DVD This August

After months of speculation, Paramount Home Video has officially announced a DVD edition of ""Titanic,"" the top-grossing movie of all time. The DVD has been scheduled for release on August 31 with a suggested retail price of $29.99. On the technical side, the disc will feature a widescreen edition of the movie (although reportedly not anamorphic widescreen), DolbyÆ Digital 5.1 and separate Dolby Surround soundtracks and will be THXÆ-certified. There was speculation that the disc would also feature a full screen edition of the movie on the flip side of the DVD, which would have made it one of the first DVD-18 discs (dual-side, dual-layer), as well as some additional footage not in the theatrical cut. Perhaps the omission of these extra features will prompt an additional DVD release sometime in the future. ""Titanic"" is the fictional account of the romance between Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose (Kate Winslet) while passengers on the not so fictional doomed luxury liner. Since its theatrical release in December 1997, ""Titanic"" has grossed $600 million in North America and over $1.5 billion throughout the world. It also tied the record for winning the most AcademyÆ Awards (eleven ñ tied with ""Ben Hur"").
