Super Video CD Format A Success In China

While DVD-Video is projected to have a big impact in China, the format will have to unseat the success of the Super Video CD format rolled out late in 1998. According to reports, by the end of last year, SVCD accounted for 58 percent of the Chinese video disc market. SVCD is higher-quality version of the Video CD format, which is expected to be worth 16 million players this year, of which 85 percent will be SVCD format.
