Anamorphic Widescreen Lens Attachment For DV/DVCAM/Digital 8 Camcorders

If you are a home movie enthusiasts and would like to shoot in anamorphic widescreen optically rather than electronically, OpTex has introduced the DV Anamorphic Attachment, which is specifically intended for use with DV/DVCAM/Digital 8 camcorders that have 4:3 (1.33:1) aspect ratio CCDs. The attachment is an optical assembly that squeezes the image horizontally by 1.78x in order to produce the intended 1.78:1 (16:9) aspect ratio, so no resolution is lost when using the entire CCD. This attachment is designed to supplant the electronic process, which achieves the 1.78:1 effect by scanning only the middle of the 4:3 CCD; such a procedure decreases both vertical resolution and image quality. When using the OpTex attachment, the cameraís viewfinder displays a stretched image that will be presented normally on a 1.78:1 monitor. No further equipment is needed to compensate for the attachment during the editing process. OpTex does note, however, that the use of their lens will increase the camera lensí Minimum Object Distance (MOD).
