Triad Platinum LCR Sets New Home Theatre Speaker Standards
Triad Speakers, Inc. is introducing the InRoom Platinum LCR. The three-way, five driver front home theatre speaker is designed to meet the most stringent audiophile criteria, while surpassing all expectations in large A/V screening rooms and home theatres. Triad founder Larry Pexton explains: ""Our goal was to offer the best speaker system possible which could be gracefully integrated into upscale home theatre decors, without a truly absurd price."" The InRoom Platinum LCR will retail for $5,000. The speaker measures 40 inches high, by 12 inches wide, by 16 inches deep, and is constructed from premium MDF. The cabinet features proprietary dampening materials within asymmetrical internal braces and backwave deflectors. The front baffle is carefully sculpted to minimize diffraction while accommodating an adjustable Dispersion Control Lensô for pinpoint tweeter aiming. Pexton comments: ""Dynamic performance is the Platinumís greatest strength and a primary design goal. We have targeted and achieved an output goal of 115dB, which is 10dB above the THXÆ certification requirement."" Pexton added: ""To achieve the high level of sensitivity required for effortless 115dB output, we worked with Scanspeak to develop special versions of their 10 inch woofer, 5-inch midrange, and a new fabric dome tweeter. All feature their distortion-reducing SD magnetic motor structure, with copper plating of the undercut pole piece and other costly features. We also developed a new dispersion control lens for the Scanspeak tweeter, based on the unit from the critically acclaimed Triad Gold LCR. The Platinum LCR is designed for inclusion in very high-end multichannel home theatres where both motion picture soundtrack and music reproduction must be of the highest possible quality levels. Pexton says: ""Because most Platinum owners will incorporate several high quality subwoofers into their system, like the Triad Platinum PowerSub, we optimized the Platinum LCR for maximum efficiency and lowest distortion at high sound pressure levels, rather than for bass extension. The Platinum LCR provides a sensitivity of 94dB for an input of 2.83 volts, producing a sound pressure level capability well in excess of 115dB at one meter. A full Platinum system will exceed 115dB at the listening window in rooms up to 6,000 cubic feet, and will exceed the levels required for THX certification in a 9000 cubic foot room.""
