New Line Cinemaís ""Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me"" is the second film, after ""Star Wars: Episode I ñ The Phantom Menace,"" to be encoded in the new Dolby Digital Surround EX format. With Surround EX, back surround information is reproduced by the theatreís rear wall speakers, while left and right surround information is reproduced by the side wall speakers.Unfortunately, since theatres showing ""The Phantom Menace"" are the ones who initially purchased Surround EX-capable processors, and since Lucasfilm has a minimum twelve-week contract with virtually all of these theatres, few people will have experienced the ""Austin Powers"" soundtrack with the Surround EX coding theatrically. Look for decoding the Surround EX information when a DVD is released later this year. But you will first have to purchase and equip your 5.1 home theatre system with a Surround EX processor, currently available from Audio Design Associates (914 946 9595) and Smart Devices (800 457 6278).
