Gennum Showcases HDTV 10-Bit Image Processing Solutions At CEDIA EXPO 2002

Gennum Corporation demonstrated their recent additions to their Visual Excellenceô image processing product family at CEDIA EXPO 2002. The chipset demonstrated offers 10-bit broadcast-quality deinterlacing and scaling. The GF9330/GF9331/GF9320 devices work in a variety of configurations to deinterlace and scale HDTV/SDTV video for home theatre projection systems and large flat-panel displays. The GF9331 Motion Coprocessor and the GF9330 High Performance Deinterlacer address the need for higher image quality in progressive scan displays by implementing motion-adaptive deinterlacing algorithms with multi-directional edge detection techniques. These solutions perform pixel-by-pixel motion-adaptive processing with automatic 3:2 detection and compensation on HDTV/SDTV video signals up to 1080p/60 frames per second. The GF9320 Scaling Processor allows the user to scale any 10-bit input video format to the desired output format, using a 24-tap poly-phase filter. It is ideal for aspect ratio conversion as well as dynamic pan, scan, and zoom effects. A built-in color space converter allows for a variety of output modes such as HDTV, WXGA, and user-defined arbitrary modes. For cost-sensitive applications, product designers can use the built-in spatial deinterlacing capabilities of the GF9320. Higher quality, motion-adaptive deinterlacing can be achieved with the addition of the GF9330 and the GF9331 through a seamless interface. All three devices employ 10-bit broadcast-quality algorithms. For more information, visit www.gennum.com.
