After Announcing A Film-Only Edition Of ""Titanic"" On DVD, Paramount Prepares Release Of A VHS Collectorís Edition

In a decision that will surely disappoint many DVD/home theatre afficianados, Paramount Home Video has recently announced a Collectorís Edition of ""Titanic"" for release only on the VHS videocassette format. Due on October 5 with a minimum advertised price of $26.95, the VHS Collectorís Edition will be available in both widescreen and full screen editions with each featuring an array of supplemental material including a 24 page full-color photo book and a souvenir film clip from the movie. The DVD edition, due on August 31, will feature only a widescreen edition of the 194- minute movie plus the theatrical trailer. As to why the DVD market will not see a Collectorís Edition of ""Titanic"" this year, Michael Arkin, senior VP of marketing for Paramount, explains: ""Down the road, when the customer base for DVD is bigger, this allows us to come out with a collectorís edition. I can assure you, what weíre putting out is what Mr. Cameron (director James Cameron) wanted.""
