HDTV Via Phone Lines

Lucent Digital Video and ViaGate Technologies have announced the development of a system that allows high definition and standard definition TV signals to run through regular phone lines, using ViaGateís residential gateway product ñ the ViaWay. The signals will be encoded and decoded by the Lucent VideoStar system. Viewers will be able to see HDTV and standard-definition video and use their phone over the same telephone wire. The service runs on Very High-Speed Digital Subscriber Lines (VDSL), which allow telephones companies and others to carry HDTV signals through bandwidths of 20 Mbps to 50 Mbps.
