ARCAM Introduces Affordable High-End FMJ DV27A DVD Player

2-Sep-03

Audiophile Systems, Ltd. (ASL) has announced the introduction of ARCAM's new top-of-the line DVD player. The FMJ DV27A is part of the Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) product line, offering DVD-Video and DVD-Audio playback capability. The FMJ DV27A is an upgrade to the FMJ DV27 DVD player, introduced in 2001. The new DV27A incorporates all the features of the DV27 and adds decoding for high-resolution stereo and multichannel DVD-Audio. The state-of-the-art DVD-Audio board incorporates speaker delay and level control, and comprehensive bass management, including user-selectable crossover frequencies from 50-150 Hz. High-performance multichannel decoding for DolbyÆ Pro LogicÆ, Dolby Digital, and DTSÆ Digital Surroundô are also provided, as are an HDCDÆ decoder and MP3 decoder with on-screen browser. All DV27s can be fitted with the DV27A's DVD-Audio board. The DV27A is said to offer audio performance equivalent to that obtained from a high-end, standalone CD player. There are three separate, low-jitter master clocks for video, DVD audio, and two-channel audio. A 32-bit Zoran audio DSP is employed, as well as 24-bit/192 kHz Wolfson audio DACs with 117 dB signal-to-noise ratio for all six audio channels. As part of ARCAM's FMJ collection, the DV27A uses independently regulated power supplies for digital and analog circuitry and employs dual transformers, including a low-noise toroid for critical audio stages. The FMJ DV27A is equipped with Zoran's VADDIS 5 processor keeps and Silicon Image PureProgressiveô deinterlacing, and Analog Devices 11-bit video DACs. The DV27A supports both component and RGB outputs, and features professional Elantec video buffers for all outputs for true 75-ohm source impedance. There's also NTSC-to-PAL and PAL-to-NTSC conversion. The FMJ DV27A's feature set also includes high-quality scaling/zoom, on-screen displays and menus, and an audio delay feature. The dual-laser DVD drive reads CD-R and CD-RW discs and most copy-protected audio CDs. The DV27A also replays VCDs, SVCDs and most DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, and DVD+RW media, and is also JPEG/Photo CD-compatible. As with all models in ARCAM's FMJ product line, the DV27A's faceplate is CNC-machined from a solid 8 mm aluminum extrusion. Its chassis is constructed of Acousteelô, a three-layer laminate that utilizes ""constrained layer damping"" technology to virtually eliminate chassis resonance for improved fidelity and stability. Available in black or silver finish, the ARCAM FMJ DV27A is currently shipping at an MSRP of $2,499. DVD-Audio upgrades for earlier DV27 models are available for $499 or $699, depending on the serial number. For more information about Audiophile Systems, Ltd., visit www.audiophilesystems.com.
