Movies Via Electronic Delivery Envisioned At DVD í99/IRMA Conference
Benjamin Feingold, President of Columbia TriStar Home Video announced at the 2nd Annual DVD ë99/IRMA Conference at the Universal City Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California on August 4, that in the next few years, consumers will be able to watch Movies via Electronic Delivery day-and-date with theatrical exhibition and home video. Feingold stated ""There are only 26,000 theater's in the U.S. and only 30,000 retailers that carry video product which makes for a íBottleneckí in the supply chain of movie distribution and many consumers who are íHome Boundí (families with small children etc) would pay a premium price for the convenience of watching first run movies in the home. Feingold also stated that the shortening of all windows is inevitable given the new technological advances in electronic delivery systems and foresees the global opening for theatrical distribution plus the studios will have to continue to move faster and faster in making movie distribution available in all markets worldwide.""
