Atlantic Technologyís New System 10 In-Wall Speakers For Home Theatre And Music

Atlantic Technology has introduced the System 10, a high-performance in-wall loudspeaker designed for superior home theatre and music reproduction. As the first of the companyís new IWTS (In-Wall Theater System) line, System 10 was adapted from Atlanticís award-winning System 270 home theatre speakers. The design goal for System 10 was to create an in-wall speaker that can be used as a full-range stereo speaker as well as integrating smoothly with Atlantic Technology subwoofers and dipole surround speakers. In this way, System 10, according to the company, can be used to create a variety of systems that will provide an outstanding music and home cinema sound experience from Dolby Digital, DTS Digital Surround and other state of the art sources. System 10 is configured as a DíAppolito array with a central swiveling 1-inch silk dome tweeter that can be aimed for optimum dispersion. It has a front-panel high-frequency level control that can boost or cut tweeter output by 2 dB. The tweeter is flanked by two long-throw 6-1/2-inch Injection Molded Graphite (IMG) woofers. These drivers include powerful motors, high excursion half-roll rubber surrounds and magnetic shielding. The DíAppolito configuration provides excellent control of vertical dispersion and enhances the speakerís imaging. Compared to traditional freestanding speakers, truly good in-wall speakers are very difficult to design. With free-standing speakers, the complex relationships between the drivers, crossover, baffle, enclosure, and room are more ""fluid."" With in-wall speakers there is far less design and placement flexibility. Therefore, performance problems can only be solved by many hours of careful testing and listening. System 10 underwent nearly six months of testing and fine tuning after the first prototypes were built to optimize performance. The result, says the company, is a legitimate audiophile-grade speaker that delivers excellent music and home theatre performance. With its full-range, low-distortion sound, System 10 is ideal for a stereo-only music system. As a center channel speaker, System 10 can be installed above or below the video monitor, or behind an acoustically transparent projection screen. Ideally, the System 10 speaker will be used in conjunction with Atlanticís Model 174 SR or 274 SR on-wall/in-wall dipole surround speakers. However, System 10 can be used as a surround speaker too, as long as it is installed well off-axis above and behind the listener, as should any direct radiator used in a surround application. System 10 speakers are easy to install in any standard construction wall. Once the speaker is positioned in the wall cutout, the installer merely screws down the rotating mounting clamps to lock the speaker tightly against the wall board. A very comprehensive instruction manual includes directions for improving the acoustic characteristics of the wall cavity or for building a dedicated in-wall enclosure. System 10 in-wall home theatre speakers are now available from authorized Atlantic Technology dealers and custom installation specialists.
