Artistic Audio Introduces Mobius Loudspeaker

John T. Larsen, President of Artistic Audio, unveiled his companyís Mobius loudspeaker system. Mobius uses the same ìperfect pulsating sphereî design as Artistic Audioís Gemini system, which received Design & Engineering Showcase Honors in the 1998 Consumer Electronics Showís Innovations 1998 competition. The Mobius design pro-duces a 360-degree sound and boasts two United States Patents. Mobius loud-speakers feature a perfect pulsating sphere comprised of twin eight-inch dome mid-bass drivers mounted back to back. Each midbass driver uses neodymium 33 motors, 10/18 steel return cups and copper-clad aluminum wire voice coils, with the tweeters mounted directly in front of each midbass driver. ìWe determined that the best way to produce sound from a single point source is to try to emulate a perfect pulsating sphere,î said Larsen. ìWe believe that both the design and sound quality of the Mobius loudspeaker will hold great appeal for the serious audiophile.î The floor standing models introduced today include a sideward-mounted eight-inch subwoofer that ensures the smallest possible footprint for each speaker while enabling good low-frequency extension. The midbass sphere rests on a hollow tuning fork-shaped velocity stack that minimizes defraction and lowers low frequency cutoff of the midbass drivers via an air compliance displacement technology developed by Artistic Audio. The tuning fork is angled to provide maximum phase/time alignment between the subwoofer and midbass voice coils. The Mobius loudspeakers will sell for a manufacturerís retail suggested price of US$ 2,399 per pair, competitively positioning the product within the high-end audio market. Artistic Audio also plans to produce and sell bookshelf and ceiling-mounted versions of the Mobius loudspeakers.
