Image Entertainment Releases The Largest Set Of High-Definition Content Available on DVD; All Programs Originally Created For Exhibition In IMAX Theatres

Image Entertainment, Inc., working with MacGillivray Freeman Films and Microsoft Corp, has released ten High-Definition DVDs for playback on Windows XP-based PCs this week in Windows Media High-Definition Video (WMV HD). WMV HD titles enable content providers to deliver films with resolution of up to 1080p, approximately six times the resolution of standard DVD video. Nine of the titles released represent the most High-Definition DVD 1080p content available for playback on Windows XP-based PCs. Each DVD package contains a standard definition version of the program for playback on any DVD player and a companion DVD-ROM disc that features the entire feature film mastered in High-Definition (720p and 1080p) using Windows Media 9 Series. All originally created for exhibition in IMAX theatres, the titles include ìCoral Reef Adventure,î voted the Best IMAX Theatre Film of 2003. This DVD, released in January, was the first High-Definition DVD released in 1080p resolution. The balance of the group, hitting store shelves today, include the new-to-DVD titles ìAmazon,î a 1997 Academy Award nominee, ìTo The Limitî and ìSpeed.î Also reformatted and re-released in a new special edition widescreen format are ìThe Magic Of Flightî and the Academy Award-nominated films ìDolphinsî and ìThe Living Sea,î which feature the music of Sting. The final three titles are ìJourney Into Amazing Caves,î ìThe Discoverers,î and ìStormchasers.î All 2-Disc sets are priced at $19.99.
