To mark the 30th anniversary of the release of the BeatlesĂ animated film, Yellow Submarine, will be re-released on DVD (as well as video and CD). The soundtrack will be remastered in 5.1 channels of discrete audio. The bulk of the remastering is the 15 songs in the movie, done by Peter Cobbin, senior recording engineer at Abbey Road Studios in London. Cobbin, who is a surround mixing and recording specialist, began the Beatles project in 1997. The songs were all recorded between 1965 and 1968. Thankfully, EMP/Parlophone had preserved the multitrack archives, consisting of at least one 4-track tape per song, and sometimes more, if layers of overdubbing were used. 4-track recording was the prevalent recording technology during this period of time. The remastered Yellow Submarine appears in stores Septermber 14.Source: Pro Sound News, by Christopher Walsh
