The Owens Corning SelectSoundô Speaker Well delivers both appearance and performance by correcting the loss of sound quality that occurs when speakers are recessed inside a wall for aesthetic reasons. The molded fiberglass enclosure, with a unique MiraflexÆ insulation ""pillow"" in the back of the well, isolates the transmission of sound from both the front and back of the speaker. The speaker well not only enhances the sound produced by the speaker, but also isolates and prevents the sound from traveling into adjoining rooms. An integral acoustic septum the speaker from the wall cavity, preventing the ""rattle"" that can occur when the cavity resonates at a specific frequency.Neil Hettler, Technical Leader, Acoustic System Business at Owens Corning, said, ""Weíve really scrutinized in-wall speakers in our world-class acoustics laboratory, and the results are startling as they show how the sound from such speakers vibrates and distorts throughout the entire wall.""Two configurations are available. One works with the patented SelectSound acoustic room system and has fabric covering. The second is designed for use with regular drywall construction, and is supplied assembled with a gypsum cover. Two sizes are available in each configuration. The 16-inch x 24-inch well will accommodate a standard speaker, while the 16-inch x 48-inch well allows the standard speaker to perform more like a freestanding speaker. Both units are designed to fit between a standard 16-inch stud opening. The speaker well can be used in both commercial and residential applications.
