Rotel Delivers New Multichannel Amplifier That Offers Exceptional Performance And Flexibility

Rotel Electronics, known throughout the world for their highly acclaimed line of affordably-priced, audiophile-grade components, introduces a new power amplifier destined to become a reference for others to follow. The RMB-1095 power amplifier combines brute with the aural finesse and user convenience that is now the hallmark of this company's line of audio and video components. Michael Bartlett, Rotel North America's Vice President and General Manager says, ""Multichannel audio is a challenge, particularly for power amplifier designers because itís easy to lose sight of the needed balance between power, sonics, flexibility, convenience, and real world installation concerns."" Power For Any Occasion Whether itís used to power a high performance two channel system or part of a multi-component set-up, the RMB-1095 offers substantial power to drive even the most inefficient loudspeakers or multiple subwoofers. Power handling is rated at 200 watts RMS per channel with all five channels driven into 8 ohms. Output increases to 320 watts RMS per channel at 4 ohms and remains stable down to 2 ohms. Because of the prodigious output capability and the consequent potential for tripping marginal circuit breakers, special ""current absorbers"" minimize initial over please turn-on surges. Once operational, the amplifier's sophisticated ""over current"" protection circuit with front panel LED indicators guards against potentially harmful operating conditions. ""Supply Side"" Design Two heavy-duty 1.2 kVA toroidal transformers manufactured by Rotel, each with multiple secondary windings, form the basis of an exceptionally robust power supply. One transformer feeds Left and Right channels only, while the second provides proper operating voltages for Center, Left Surround, and Right Surround outputs. High current regulators and a total of eight 22k µF British-made Slit Foil capacitors with quick discharge characteristics comprise the balance of the massive supply. Output Stage Each channel benefits from three pair of matched 150 watt / 15 amp output devices in a complementary/symmetry configuration. The combined dissipation potential of the 30 devices is 4,500 watts and 450 amps. Basic circuit topology derives from Rotel's RB-1090 stereo power amplifier, recognized as one of the finest amplifiers available at any price. Massive extruded aluminum heat sinks are both functional and cosmetic. The side-mounted sinks dissipate heat from main and surround channels while front panel fins cool the center channel output stage while adding a commanding cosmetic presence to the amplifier. This increases placement flexibility as the design allows maximum exposure to airflow even in cramped locations. Flexible Connections In keeping with its audiophile roots, the RMB-1095 features five-way, heavy duty, gold-plated binding posts and has both balanced (XLR) and single-ended (RCA) inputs. Each channel's XLR connector automatically shorts the companion RCA input when used. This allows the user to configure a ""mixed use"" system, one that reproduces both music and movie soundtracks, to derive maximum benefit from balanced connections to Left and Right inputs, for example, while still using single-ended connections for Center and Surround channels. The RMB-1095 is housed in an attractive black matte finish cabinet with an anodized aluminum front panel. Heavy-duty casters on the bottom allow easy placement in cabinets or other cramped locations without scratching wood work or other surfaces. The RMB-1095 is now available at the suggest retail price of $1,999.00.
