Niles Audio Corporation, maker of a unique broad and deep line of products for multiroom audio and video entertainment, introduced a revolutionary new keypad control system called IntelliPadÆ Ci at the recent Custom Electronics Design and Installation Associationís (CEDIA) Expo in Indianapolis.The IntelliPad Ci (Central Intelligence) System is intended for consumers who desire an automated distributed Home Entertainment system with intuitive, affordable, reliable keypad control. At the same time, the systemís modular components and new keypads provide installers with a wide variety of options in designing custom solutions for clients.In developing the IntelliPad Ci System, Niles has ingeniously centralized and enhanced the ""intelligence"" of its successful IntelliPadÆ, making it accessible to all connected peripheral devices in the system, unleashing a multitude of advantages for both custom installer and consumers. The IntelliPad Ci System consists of a main system controller, the IntelliPad Ci Server; two Master Keypads, the Select and the Solo; two Accessory Keypads, the Numeric and the Transport; and the Silencer, an automatic muting volume control. Installed, this modular suite of components delivers new levels of flexibility, performance and affordable options to custom installer and home entertainment enthusiasts.The IntelliPad Ci Server, the systemís mastermind, stores all the data and monitors and broadcasts the on/off status of connected A/V components. It receives and processes instructions from the keypads and broadcasts appropriate IR commands to A/V and lighting equipment. The Server is capable of unleashing an elaborate sequence of IR commands providing users with reliable, one-touch automation. Its modular design integrates with other IntelliPad Ci Servers as well as the A4.6 Ci 4-Source/6-Zone Audio Preamplifier and the IntelliControlÆ Home Theater Automation System.The Server employs advanced RJ-45 connections for its keypad and 3.5mm jacks for its IR flashers for quick and reliable installations. System designers need only program once using on-board hardware for configuring on the fly or easy-to-use WindowsÆ-based software.Two Master Keypads, the Select and the Solo, are the principle means of communication with the Server. Each location requires a Select or a Solo keypad. The Select is designed to provide advanced control and automation for up to eight sources of ""favorites,"" while the Solo can be programmed to control up to four sources or ""favorites."" Because it includes basic control function, the Solo can also be used alone.The Master Keypads also feature backlit master keys, which indicate room and zone on/off status, and each Master Keypad can be custom labeled to reflect the customerís exact requirements or ""favorites.""The Accessory Keypads add other important capabilities. The Numeric offers number keys and other controls for direct system access, such as the selection of a specific CD number, track number, radio station, or favorite DSS channel. The Transport, with easy-to-use basic controls like Play and Reverse, allows installers to program independent function controls for system components.The Silencer, used with the System keypads, automatically mutes the unused rooms within a zone while also providing independent volume control for the room that is in use. Conveniently, the IntlelliPad Ci keypads installed in the same zone will indicate the selected source.In addition, the intuitive keypads can be installed in a variety of single-and multi-gang configurations, and are designed for true one-touch operation. The keys have a positive tactile feel and shaped buttons, making it easy to differentiate functions, and the keypad design attractively complements any homeís interior. Keypads come with white and bone Decora-style faceplates.
