Hauppauge Digital Launches Digital Broadcast Receiver Board ñ WinTV-D

Enables PCs To Receive And Display Digital Audio, Video And Data Broadcasts

Hauppauge Digital, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAUP), the leading developer and manufacturer of analog and digital video, TV and data broadcast receiver products for personal computers, has announced the launch of a digital broadcast receiver board, WinTV-D, which enables PCs to receive a full range of digital broadcasts, including data, television, music, and video games. WinTV-D is compatible with Microsoft Windows95, 98 and NT and can receive up to 19.4 million Megabits per second of digital data, far exceeding the capabilities of ISDN lines and cable modems. The self-installed receiver board occupies a single computer PCI slot and does not affect other software programs in use. WinTV-D will be available in Best Buy stores nationwide this week, retailing for approximately $300, a fraction of the cost of dedicated digital receiver products. Ken Plotkin, Hauppauge Digitalís Chief Executive Officer, stated, ""If the popularity of Hauppaugeís analog board is any indication, we anticipate the digital board to win a strong presence in the consumer and business markets, particularly with brokerage professionals, news agencies, sports fans and the technology-minded. This product is at the nexus of the accelerating convergence of the PC and television. We are confident that our first-to-market position in the digital receiver market for PCs will position Hauppauge to achieve solid growth as the availability of digital content on the Internet increases and the FCC mandated transition to digital television takes effect."" Ken Aupperle, Hauppauge Digitalís President, stated, ""A digital broadcast is the highest bandwidth pipeline into Americaís homes, several hundred times faster than an average modem and even several times faster than a cable modem. WinTV-D receiver capabilities provide broadcasters and Internet content providers with an unparalleled single-point-of-access - a fire hose - to U.S. households through which they can provide nearly a limitless number of consumers simultaneously with a spectrum of services ranging from television programming to digital downloads of software, music, movies, and video games. Additionally, we plan to offer an e-commerce enabled WinTV-D board in 2000 that will support electronic micro-transactions, thereby allowing users to access the growing amount of digital pay-as-you-go content online."" Hauppauge will make WinTV-D available in approximately 4,000 retail outlets nationwide, including CompUSA, J&R Computer, OfficeDepot, and OfficeMax by end of 2000. Hauppauge expects sales of the WinTV-D board to contribute to earnings in [second fiscal quarter] 2000. About Hauppauge Digital, Inc.
