""Digital"" Devices To Be Among The Hottest Products At CES 2000

Hifi.com National Consumer Survey Reveals Digital Cameras, DVDs And TVs Top Consumers' Wish Lists For 2000

Hifi.com, one of the Internet's most complete consumer electronics shopping resources, announced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) today the results of a national survey on buying trends for year 2000. Hifi.com's survey reveals that ""digital"" is the theme for the Millennium, with digital cameras, DVD players and digital televisions being the items consumers will look to purchase in 2000. According to the Hifi.com survey of more than 1,000 consumers, more than 60 percent of respondents plan to purchase a digital camera, DVD player or digital television in 2000. Of the consumers surveyed, approximately 70 percent will look to spend upwards of $1,000 to $10,000 on digital devices, with a whopping 13 percent looking to spend more than $30,000. Furthermore, survey results also revealed that both men and women intend to buy similar products and spend similar amounts on consumer electronics, indicating that consumer adoption of digital technologies is not gender specific. ""Digital is the word that's ringing in the Millennium,"" said Thomas Hannaher, Vice President of Merchandise at Hifi.com. ""In 2000, the computer will continue its migration from the home office to the living room. Digital technology - in the form of MP3 and DVD audio - will change the way we listen to music. Progressive scan DVD players, digital video recorders and HDTV will change how we watch TV. And digital cameras will start to become dominant.""
