March Sound Design: Not Just Another Hi-Fi Amplifier

After 30 years of designing High End audio systems (from preamp all the way to speakers) and consulting for other companies, Richard Marsh announces that heís starting his own firm, Marsh Sound Design. The company will develop consumer electronics representing the distillation of his years of experience and research in audio. Author, lecture, engineer, and inventor, Marsh has for decades shared with other designers the art of perfecting audio circuits. He also designed the MIT Z Systems powerline components and a series of power products for Monster Cable. He holds some dozen patents in powerline concepts, capacitor design (the well-regarded MultiCap, for example), connectors, and other audio related products. ""We have two goals,"" Marsh says. ""The first is to build the best, simple, and most reliable line and power amplifier possible, using top-quality modern parts and the most elegant circuit design. Our second aim is to offer these products at prices all music lovers can afford."" This is a challenge today, when fine audio products cost as much as a small house, and the ëtrickle downí design are either not well built or hopelessly compromised to reduce cost."" MSDís motto is: Complex on the inside; simple on the outside. The complexity, Marsh explains, reflects his decades of circuit design (he invented the popular Servo Control circuit and a number of input and output circuits still used in many well-known products). ""Simple on the outside,"" Marsh continues, ""reflects the choice of elements the listener really needs in his audio and video systems. We believe in performance, not gimmicky features."" ""Marsh Sound Design is based upon the ides that a good preamp and amp form the heart of a long-term system,"" Marsh says. ""An MSD amplifier will allow the listenerís system to grow. It will bring out the best not only in small speakers and inexpensive front end units, but in the finest associated equipment, both in audio, and soon, in video."" Audio products will be available now: - Tube-hybrid line amplifier, MSD P2000t - Solid-state line amplifier, P2000 (with remote) - 400 watt stereo power amplifier, A400s - 200 watt stereo power amplifier, A200s In first quarter of 2000, the HT500 will appear: - Three channel 100-watt amplifier for the front center, left, and right channels The products will be on view at CES, January 6-9, 2000, in the Monster Cable exhibit at the Hilton Hotel (Booth 8435).
