Zenith Shows Giant 60-Inch Flat-Panel HDTV Plasma Display, 40-Inch Plasma And Two New LCD Models

Zenith Electronics Corporation showed one of the worldís largest hang-on-the-wall plasma displays ñ a 60-inch widescreen model capable of displaying digital high-definition television (HDTV) images. Demonstrated at the 2000 International Consumer Electronics Show last week, the Zenith 60-inch PDP (plasma display panel) delivers high-resolution images on an ultra-thin, lightweight display panel with a screen as big as four 30 inches wide TVs combined. In the DigiView section of its CES booth, Zenith also showed its new 40-inch PDP model and two LCD (liquid crystal display) TV displays, a 22-inch wide screen model and an extra slim 15.1-inch diagonal set. The giant PDP, planned for 2001, is designed to produce whiter whites and darker darks than previously possible, achieving an impressive contrast ratio of 550:1 and a peak brightness of 250 cd/m. This unit displays rich, full-color images representing 256 gray-scale definition and a color palette of 16.77 million colors. The Zenith 60-inch PDP features soft-touch screen controls and multi-functional remote for PDP operation. It also has an array of multi-media functions, enabling computer-generated text, graphics or video output to be displayed on the screen with outstanding image quality. Also on display is Zenithís 40-inch PDP, which delivers the highest peak brightness in its category. Featuring soft-touch screen control technology, it has a contrast ratio of 1000:1 while consuming just 370 watts of power. The 40-inch display, also planned for 2001, is only 7.8 cm deep, compared with competitive products that are nearly 10 cm deep. Introducing its first liquid crystal television displays, Zenith is showing its 22-inch widescreen LCD TV with wide super XGA resolution of 1600 x 1024 and a brightness of 200 (cd/m^2) and the 15.1 inch Extra Slim TFT LCD TV. The Extra Slim has a high resolution PC monitor (XGA grade) and a High-Definition Digital Signal (HD Grade 720p) ready.
