AKM Introduces A 24-Bit D-To-A Converter For Consumer Audio Applications

AKM Semiconductor introduces the AK4380, a new 24-bit stereo audio DAC for higher performance but still cost sensitive consumer and professional electronics systems. Ideal applications are Studio Effects Processors, DVD players and DolbyÆ Digital AC-3Æ amplifiers. This device is based on AKM's multi-bit Delta-Sigma technology, that offers high linearity preserving the THD+N specified at 88dB for this device. It operates at sampling rates up to 96kHz with a dynamic range specified at 100dB. The AK4380 includes features such as a de-emphasis filter, a second order analog low pass filter, and soft mute. According to Ahmad Nowbakht, AKM Applications Engineer, this part will allow customers to offer 24-bit 96kHz operation while keeping total system cost to a minimum. This expands AKM's product offering, providing the industry the widest selection of audio converters available from any one manufacturer. The AK4380 is packaged in a small 16-pin TSSOP package, measuring 6.4mm by 5.0mm. Running from a 5V power supply, it dissipates only 70mW of power. Its operating temperature range is -40C to +85C.
