Kenwood Introduces Its First Five-Channel Car Audio Amplifier And New Mono-Channel Amp Ideal For Subwoofers

Offering the most comprehensive line of car audio amplifiers in its history, Kenwood USA Corp. unveiled two high performance component amplifiers, including its first five-channel model, at the International Consumer Electronics Show. The new five-channel KAC-859 does the job of two separate amplifiers by incorporating two power supplies, one for powering two front and two rear speakers at 40 watts per channel, and the other for powering a subwoofer with up to 120 watts on one channel. The new mono-channel amp, the KAC-719, delivers up to 150 watts and is designed for subwoofer speakers. ""The KAC-859 can be used in either a three-channel or five-channel configuration, giving customers unparalleled performance, flexibility and value,"" said Bob Law, Vice President, Sales and Marketing. ""This is the first five-channel amp with separate power supplies for the full-range speakers and the subwoofer. This is an innovative design that produces an audible difference in system performance, especially at high volume. Thereís no product that competes with it, in or out of its price range."" KAC-859 Multi-Channel Amplifier The KAC-859 multichannel amp provides 40 watts to four channels, and 120 watts to a subwoofer at 4Ohms, 14.4 volts (20Hz - 20kHz, 0.8% THD). At 2 Ohms, 14.4 volts, the amp can drive 60 watts of power to four channels plus 170 watts to a subwoofer (1kHz, 0.8% THD). Bridged, the amp provides 120 watts to two channels, and 170 watts to a subwoofer at 14.4 volts (1kHz, 0.8% THD). In addition, the KAC-859 has: - A dual power supply - A variable low-pass electronic crossover (50Hz-200Hz, 18dB per Octave, subwoofer channel) for optimizing subwoofer performance - A selectable high-pass electronic crossover (Off/80Hz/150Hz, 12dB per Octave, A/B channels) for optimizing full-range speaker performance - Selectable 5 or 3 channels of amplification, depending on the number of speakers in the consumerís vehicle. Kenwoodís KAC-859 multi-channel amplifier will be available in April for a suggested retail price of $400. KAC-719 Mono Amplifier Kenwoodís KAC-719 mono power amp provides 150 watts to a single channel at 4 Ohms, 14.4 volts (100Hz, 0.08% THD), and a 230 watts at 2 Ohms (100Hz, 0.8% THD). In addition, the KAC-719 has: - Kenwoodís Sigma Servo circuitry for tighter, more forceful bass response without distortion; - A variable low-pass electronic crossover (50Hz ñ 200Hz, 15dB per Octave) to optimize subwoofer performance; - Bass Boost (selectable High-Q, Off/90Hz, 6dB or 12dB per Octave). Kenwoodís KAC-719 amplifier will be available in March for a suggested retail price of $200.
