BARCO And Runco Sign Home Theater Pact

BARCO and Runco, the company that coined the term ""Home Theater,"" have signed a long-term $20 million contract. Over the course of the next several years, BARCO will supply Runco with high performance, large screen projection systems which have been specially adapted with proprietary Runco features. Under the terms of this agreement, Runco will exclusively distribute their unique projectors to the Home Theater market throughout the world. ""We are extremely excited about the opportunity to partner with Runco, a leader in the Home Theater market. BARCO is dedicated to providing its customers with the state-of-the-art technology found in our projectors and unsurpassed customer service,"" said Jim Crane, Vice President and General Manager for BARCO Projection Systems America. ""We believe this partnership will provide the Home Theater market with the very best of both organizations."" Sam Runco, an innovator in the video projection business since the early 1970's, founded Runco International with his wife, Lori, in 1987. The company, currently headquartered in Hayward, California was the first to coin the term ""Home Theater,"" and promptly received a trademark for the term from the state of California. Runco International is a market leader for front and rear projection televisions, flat-panel plasma TVs, video processors, and source components for the consumer market. Runco was the first video company to introduce a multiple-aspect-ratio controller to the Home Theater market and also the first to introduce and market a line doubler with a multi-frequency projector in 1990. ""Our two companies are an excellent fit in providing the end user with the highest possible quality video reproduction for the Home Theater market,"" said Rick Bergamaschi, General Manager for Runco International. ""We feel that this relationship will help expand our future and we look forward to working with BARCO in the years to come.""
