The elegant slim, highly innovative Sonance Silhouette(tm) has been named an Innovations 2000 award recipient. The Award recognizes the Sonance Silhouette III (SL4966) as the next evolution of high performance in-wall speakers. The Sonance Silhouette speaker line, which includes three models, has unique elongated aluminum extrusion that easily fits within standard wall construction to create a revolutionary space-saving design. ìWeíre thrilled that the Sonance Silhouette III has been named an innovations 2000 award recipient,î said Chip Brown, chief operating officer, Sonance. ìSonance prides itself as the Leader in Architectural Audio(tm), and this award is excellent recognition that we design and manufacture outstanding loudspeaker systems that are both integral to a homeís interior design and high on premium audio performance.îSonance Silhouette speakers deliver sonic performance previously limited to high-end, free-standing speakers by combining innovative drive technology with a sophisticated crossover design. The Sonance Silhouette design approach eliminates the coloration caused by drywall vibration by isolating critical speaker components from the wall itself. The array design for the tweeter and two midrange drivers offers a controlled vertical dispersion pattern, which keeps the listener in the speakerís ìsweet spot,î whether seated or standing. The arrayís unique enclosure is mounted to a 1-inch thick baffle, which is then coupled with a rigid aluminum frame control resonance. The Sonance Silhouette III is 66 inches tall and is comprised of four elliptical 6-inch-wide aluminum cone woofers, a 4-inch cast magnesium cone midrange and a 1-inch high-fidelity concave titanium dome tweeter with glass fiber reinforced polymer chassis. The 4-inch midrange driver design was chosen after scientific research into the interaction between drywall components and loudspeakers revealed that the drywall/stud interface is most susceptible to resonance in the 150 Hz to 200 Hz band. The 4-inch midrange drivers of the Sonance Silhouette III and other models in the line allow a crossover point at 135 Hz, below this resonance frequency.Sonance, headquartered in San Clemente, Calif., was the first high-fidelity architectural audio brand in the world.
