Proton Introduces New Digital Surround A/V Pre-Amplifier Offering DolbyÆ Digital/DTSÆ Digital Surroundô 5.1 and Dolby ProLogicÆ

Offering audiophiles outstanding quality, performance and flexibility in a single new product, Proton Corporation, a leading manufacturer of high-end audio/video products, introduces the AS-2631 DolbyÆ Digital, DTSÆ Digital Surroundô 5.1 channel A/V preamplifier. The AS-2631 was honored with the prestigious Innovations 2000 Design & Engineering Award at the International Consumer Electronics Show (ICES) in Las Vegas, Nevada. The AS-2631ís superior sound reproduction characteristics ensure that Dolby Digital and DTS Digital Surround soundtracks deliver realistic depth and dimension. The advanced multi-channel digital sound processor reproduces six independent audio channels: left, right, center, left surround and right surround, as well as an independent subwoofer channel. The Proton AS-2631 is designed not only to address the myriad performance and compatibility challenges of todayís most demanding home theater installations, but to offer users a robust system capable of meeting tomorrowís evolving platform standards. The AS-2631 also offers Dolby Surround ProLogicÆ decoding as well as seven different DSP simulative surround modes for stereo. The Unit automatically detects and decodes the input signal format (Dolby Digital or DTS). The AS-2631 has four digital audio inputs including one optical and three coaxial, along with four stereo analog audio inputs. It also features four video inputs including one composite and three S-video. For superb sound quality, the Proton AS-2631 has a 24-bit DSP chip as well as a 20-bit DAC and ADC. The unit features a high dynamic and precise six-channel Volume Control (0 to -80dB by 1dB/step) along with precise six-channel Level Control (from -10 to +10dB by 1dB/step) for optimum sound level. A special DSP-type Bass Management system sets the speaker mode to match the userís speaker size for Dolby Digital Surround. Center and surround channels delay time may be adjusted by 1ms/step for perfect sound tailoring. Six dual color (red and green) LEDs indicate the encoded program channel with an amber color. The LEDs also indicate the speaker set-up with red for large speaker full band frequency response and green for small speaker and low frequency redirection. The AS-2631 offers a + 5VDC output connector to link a multi-channel power amplifier with a +5VDC control input. The Proton AS-2631 Digital Surround A/V Pre-Amplifier has a full-feature remote control that offers easy-to-use on-screen menu programming. The Proton AS-2631 measures 16-1/2 inches wide, 3 inches high and 14-1/2 inches deep, and has a suggested retail price of $800.
