Sound Editors Mix In TV Nominations

The Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) group has rung in its top picks for TV, awarding multiple editing nominations to HBOís ""The Sopranos,"" Foxís ""Ally McBeal"" and the Warner Bros.í ""Buffy the Vampire Slayer."" Winners will be unveiled at the MPSEís Golden Reel Awards on March 25, 2000 at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, California. ""The Sopranos,"" ""Ally"" and ""Buffy"" all snagged nominations for best music and dialogue-ADR editing in the TV episodic category. Fresh Sounds Frosh efforts ""Angel"" (Warner Bros.) and ""Freaks and Geeks"" (NBC), and canceled show ""Cold Feet"" (NBC) nabbed music-editing nominations as well. The now-defunct ""Harsh Realm"" (Fox) came away with a dialogue-ADR nomination. Other dialogue-ADR episodic nominations went to ""ER,"" ""Law & Order,"" ""NYPD Blue,"" ""The Practice"" and ""The X-Files."" Other music nominations were handed to ""The Hoop Life,"" ""Jett Jackson"" and ""The Outer Limits."" Due to more than expected entries into the TV series effects-foley category, the MPSE will unveil those nominations at a later date. Triple TV movie nods for music, dialogue and special effects editing went to HBOís ""Introducing Dorothy Dandridge"" and ""Witness Protection."" Telepic music nominees also include ""Alice in Wonderland,"" ""Bartok the Magnificent,"" ""Durango,"" ""A Lesson Before Dying,"" ""One Special Night,"" ""P.T. Barnum,"" ""Shake, Rattle and Roll"" and ""Tuesdays With Morrie."" TV Movie Contenders Made-for dialogue-ADR nominees include ""The Devilís Arithmetic,"" ""Having Our Say,"" ""Lansky,"" ""Purgatory,"" ""Tuesdays With Morrie"" and ""The Simple Life of Noah Deerborn."" On the miniseries front, ""Atomic Train,"" ""Bonanno,"" ""Hornblower,"" ""Joan of Arc,"" ""Netforce"" and ""Stephen Kingís Storm of the Century"" grabbed double nods for f/x-foley and dialogue-ADR editing. As for animated shows, series nominated twice for music and f/x-foley include ""SpongeBob SquarePants"" and ""Timon and Pumbaa.""
