DIVAô, the leader in VOD (video-on-demand) solutions for the cable television industry, and Insight Communications (NASDAQ: ICCI) announced that DIVA's video-on-demand service has been commercially launched on Motorola's (formerly General Instrument) DCT 2000 set-top terminal to cable television customers in Insight Communications' Evansville, Indiana system. As in its first VOD deployment in Rockford, Illinois, and its second VOD deployment in Columbus, Ohio, Insight's digital customers have access to SourceMedia's interactive programming guide, which will give them the ability to easily navigate to such destinations as DIVA's fully-interactive, video-on-demand offerings with hundreds of movies, children's videos and specialty programming. ""We are extremely pleased to be a significant part of this rollout and to be working with Insight, Motorola and SourceMedia to push the envelope of integrated real-time applications on the DCT platform. Our ability to rapidly deploy in Evansville with Insight on the heels of the Rockford and Columbus launches once again demonstrates the commercial readiness of our VOD products and services,"" said David Zucker, President and CEO of DIVA. ""With the launch of Evansville, DIVA is now commercially deployed in seven systems with more scheduled in the months ahead."" ""This launch is a very significant one for Insight, and we are once again pleased to partner with DIVA and SourceMedia to bring the most leading-edge interactive applications to our digital customers,"" noted Michael S. Willner, Insight's President and CEO. ""In this competitive market, we are confident that the advanced nature of our products will provide the people of Evansville with the entertainment and information options they are seeking."" Insight Communications launched its Insight Digital Gateway in Evansville as part of an extensive rebuild of the area's cable system to a two-way 750MHz platform anchored by more than 180 channels, including 45 digital music channels. Insight's Evansville area customers are now the third in the nation to have the opportunity to receive both SourceMedia's LocalSource(SM) programming and DIVA's video-on-demand service as part of the Gateway digital tier. This multiple application use of the DCT-2000 box is made possible because Insight has utilized the SourceMedia interactive program guide solution. Unlike other program guides, which are loaded into the set-top box and utilize most of the available memory in the set-top box, SourceMedia's IPG resides in a head-end server, freeing up much of the memory within the box. DIVA's VOD service, Source's IPG, and LocalSource all will be available to every new digital customer through an ongoing phased roll-out as the rebuild continues.
