Toshiba Unleashes Its Combination Drive

Toshiba America Electronic Components (TAEC), Disk Products has made available its combination CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive via distribution as well as the Toshiba Web site. The ideal optical storage product, the SD-R1002 provides the low-cost rewritability of a CD-RW drive with the high-capacity storage and the multimedia capabilities of DVD. The drive offers ""three-in-one"" functionality with CD-R/CD-RW, DVD and CD-ROM compatibility and is available in a complete kit with a suggested list price of $349. ""The Toshiba combination drive marries the two most sought-after storage technologies available today,"" said Maciek Brzeski, Vice President, Marketing, TAEC disk products. ""Since its introduction, demand for the product has been extraordinary. By offering the combination drive online and through distribution, we are able to meet demand, fill orders and deliver drives to consumers immediately."" Toshiba's three-in-one combination drive kit contains all of the necessary equipment to begin using the drive immediately. The kit includes Adaptec Easy CD Creator software and DirectCD for Windows, making recording CDs user-friendly for all skill levels. Toshiba includes CyberLink's DVD software decoder so you can enjoy DVD movie playback. Also in the kit is one piece each CD-R and CD-RW media, IDE and audio cables, and a Bonus Game Sampler featuring samples of today's hottest games. Toshiba made the SD-R1002 combination drive fully backward compatible and compliant with DVD standards as presented by the DVD Forum. This cross-compatible drive provides consumers with an easy and efficient way to evolve with storage technology. The drive reads CD-R/CD-RW media, which has a capacity of 650MB and can also read DVD-ROM software, which has a maximum capacity of 17GB per disc. The drive also features a fast writing speed of 4X for CD-R and CD-RW, and employs a full 24X speed maximum playback for CD-ROM and 4X for DVD-ROM.
