DIRECTVÆ Announces Record February Customer Growth

High-Power Service Activation Up 34 Percent

DIRECTVÆ, Inc., a unit of Hughes Electronics Corporation, announced its high-power DIRECTV digital satellite television service acquired 125,000 net new customers in February 2000. DIRECTV's February additions represent a record for that month and a 34 percent increase in net customer acquisitions over February 1999, its previous record for February. An additional 90,000 customers were transitioned to DIRECTV from medium-power PRIMESTAR By DIRECTV the previous month. Through the first two months of 2000, DIRECTV has acquired 245,000 new high-power customers, a 33 percent increase over the same period the previous year. DIRECTV now has more than 8.2 million customers, including customers subscribing to the medium-power PRIMESTAR By DIRECTV service. DIRECTV continued to transition PRIMESTAR By DIRECTV customers to high-power service in February. The 90,000 customers transitioned to high-power service in February - which are not included in the 125,000 net new customers acquired by DIRECTV the previous month - brings the total number of conversions to 640,000. At the end of February, PRIMESTAR By DIRECTV had more than 1.1 million customers subscribing to its medium-power service.
