First it was Rectangular Solid CoreÆ (RSCÆ), that revolutionized the audio cable industry. Then the RSC Air Series: RSC conductors suspended within air tubes for cleaner, more open sound. Now, TARA Labs has taken another quantum leap by introducing the worldís first vacuum cable, The Zeroô. In the Zero, a vacuum is drawn within the hollow cores of the cable, thereby creating, in a company spokesman's words, ""the perfect environment for ultimate signal transfer."" A working prototype of The Zero was shown at the 1999 Consumer Electronics Show. TARA Labs says that since the testing phase is complete, the product is being made available through select TARA Labs retailers. In addition to the vacuum dielectric (insulation), The Zero also employs TARA Labs' exclusive Isolated Floating Shieldô, introduced with the company's flagship product, The Oneô, in 1997. Says Company Founder and Lead Designer Matthew Bond, ""This is the perfect convergence of technologies: RSC conductors suspended in an airless environment and protected from RF by the Isolated Floating Shield. A vacuum dialectric is something weíve theorized many years, but until recently we had not committed resources to the task."" No other company has introduced a cable with a vacuum dielectric, though it has long been acknowledged by many in the industry as the theoretical ideal. Bond describes the sound as ""exquisitely revealing."" Regrettably, he says, this cable is not for everyone. ""You have to accept that if you have this cable in your system every upstream component is going to be subjected to the harsh light of truth,"" says Bond. He states that only the finest high-end systems will be a match for the Zero, adding, ""You can't use this in a system where you've been using cables as filters or tuning devices between your components. With a capacitance of a mere 4 pF/ft, and an inductance of .021mH/ft, The Zero is the most ultralinear interconnect cable available in history."" Due to the unique construction and assembly of The Zero, it will be priced differently than other interconnects. Lengths from 1 to 3 meters will retail for the same price, at $9800/pair. Included in the purchase price is a special Floating Ground Station, the outboard grounding unit for the Isolated Floating Shield.
