MadrigalÆ Introduces The ProceedÆ PMDT, Modular DVD Transport

MadrigalÆ enters the field of DVD machines with a high-end model from ProceedÆ. With immediate availability and priced at US $5,995, the PMDT offers a total solution for audio and video enthusiasts who want the best. According to Madrigal, equal emphasis has been placed on the performance of audio, video and user interface. ""The PMDT is the quintessential example of well-balanced design,"" said Phil Muzio, CEO of Madrigal. ""Audio and video performance is stunning, but most people are likely to be surprised by how powerful and friendly it is to use. The PMDT has a truly high-performance user interface."" According to Madrigal, the PMDT allows the setting of system defaults to help automate basic selections, bypassing the usual navigation of DVDs. You simply tell the unit that if English, discrete 5.1 channel sound and widescreen are available, those are your preferences. Load the disc and press PLAY - the PMDT navigates and makes the selections for you. Using a feature called Electronically Saved Preferences (ESP), the PMDT can automatically recall the settings of a DVD from the last time it was used - with no additional programming required. This is useful since some discs will undoubtedly be played using different options than your system defaults (such as subtitles). The next time this disc is loaded, the PMDT overrides the system defaults and plays the disc using its last settings. Programming is also available to permanently record settings for individual discs. ""Our customers expect more from us and the PMDT will deliver it,"" said Mark Glazier, President of Madrigal. ""In addition to its high-performance user interface, we have successfully implemented audio and video design details that make the PMDT the first to push the limits of the DVD format. Weíve also made the design flexible enough so we can respond more quickly to market demands as the format evolves. DVD-Audio, 720p videoÖ and who knows what after that. The card-cage modularity and software-based operating system put Proceed out in front in the race to capture the attention and appreciation of audio and video purists."" The Proceed PMDT offers digital audio and analog video outputs. It supports CD and DVD-video discs, and digital audio formats including PCM, DolbyÆ Digital, (MPEG-2, DTSÆ Digital Surroundô) and 24-bit/96kHz. Video outputs are available composite (RCA and BNC), S-video and component (BNC). The PMDT comes with a back-lit remote and features numerous control (rear IR and DC trigger jacks, RS-232, etc.) and communication (PHAST compatibility) standards. Intuitive, onscreen menus include help and information/status screens. ""The Proceed PMDT is a statement about Madrigalís commitment to high-performance, quality and ease of use. It is the most important Proceed product introduced since the popular AVP,"" added Glazier.
