Accom To Introduce HDTV Digital Disk Recorder At NAB 2000

Accom, Inc. announced that it will introduce its new High Definition WSDÆ/HD Digital Disk Recorder at NAB, April 10, 2000 in Las Vegas. WSD/HD is an uncompressed digital video storage device that can record and play High Definition (HDTV) and Standard Definition (SDTV) television formats and was designed for use in high-end graphics, effects, video and electronic film production. With more than a decade of experience as the industry leader in digital disk recorder technology, Accom's new WSD/HD is the highest-performing and the lowest-costing high definition digital disk Recorder on the market today. Prices start at under $40,000 US list. Accom has partnered with Medea Corporation to provide the most cost-effective solution for WSD/HD storage. A single Medea 78 Gigabyte VideoRAID/RT is required for SD-601 use, and four VideoRAID/RTs are required for High Definition storage. Capacities can range from 78GB to over 10 Terabytes. Storage for 40+ minutes of uncompressed HD storage can be configured for around $10,000 US List. ""We believe WSD/HD is going to dramatically change the DDR landscape,"" said Harris Rogers, Vice President of Marketing at Accom. ""Accom has changed the price/performance benchmark with every new WSD product, and the WSD/HD is no exception. We believe that 24P electronic film production is going to be a significant market for High Definition television equipment, and WSD/HD will be an important element in that production environment. With its support for SD and HD formats, WSD/HD is a truly 'universal' tool for computer graphics and effects, especially in a highly networked production environment."" WSD/HD records and plays (uncompressed) 1080/720-line HD and ITU/R.BT-601 SD formats, and supports 24P, 30P, and 50i/60i formats. WSD/HD is designed to be both a networked device for high resolution computer graphics & effects storage and a traditional cache recorder in an edit suite or for live play-to- air. Edit control will be via standard Sony protocol, with manual control via an HTML/Java applet. Any web browser on the WSD/HD network can open the GUI panel for control of the machine. WSD/HD uses the WindowsÆ 2000 OS and the industry-standard QuickTimeô file format for storage. Any QuickTime compliant graphics or effects application can seamlessly access and work with WSD/HD video and audio clips. Video clips or frames can be quickly transferred to any network workstation for compositing, color correction and rotoscoping using standard third-party applications - then easily returned to WSD/HD for playback or for additional work at another graphics station. Apple's QuickTime is rapidly becoming a defacto standard for video content, and is almost universally supported by the leading graphics and effects applications. Accom also sees QuickTime's Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) as an important step toward simple internet streaming video solutions. WSD/HD's open architecture and QuickTime file system allows every user to choose the most creative tools available for each production. No other DDR system offers the real-time speed, power, and flexibility of Accom's new WSD/HD. Whether creating animations or special effects for electronic film or television, editing, or playout of elements in live production, WSD/HD sets the standard for reliable high-quality performance.
