Miller & Kreisel Sound (M&K) has introduced the LCR-55 Mark II ($250/each), an updated version of the LCR-55, a compact, high-performance speaker that is one of its most successful speakers. The redesigned speaker now incorporates the companyís exclusive High-Frequency Prism system and Phase-Focused crossover to deliver superior imaging and sound quality with remarkable clarity. M&Kís High Frequency Prism combines a 1-inch soft-dome tweeter mounted at a 4.7-degree angle and M&Kís proprietary Phase Focused crossover to optimize the speakerís on- and off-axis response, shaping a very smooth and extended flat high-frequency response over a very wide listening window. This window is directed for optimum imaging, requiring separate left and right speakers. Counterintuitively, the tweeter is pointed 4.7 degrees away from the listening position towards the roomís nearest side wall. For the Phase-Focused crossover, M&K engineers considered the speakerís response in both the time and frequency domain at various angles in both the vertical and horizontal planes. This uniquely sophisticated crossover was critically tuned through both psychoacoustic listening and complex computer analyses. As a result, the speaker delivers a very smooth response over a wide horizontal and vertical listening window, exceeding the performance of most other speakers. That means regardless of where the speaker or listeners are located in the room the listeners will hear superior imaging and sound quality with remarkable clarity. Using the same tweeter as M&Kís reference THXÆ speakers, the LCR-55 Mark II achieves exceptional high frequency smoothness and clarity, as well. Using this speaker in combination with any other M&K model will yield an excellent timbre match and seamless 360-degree sound. The attractive look of the LCR-55 Mark II comes from its heavy curved mesh metal grille and its choice of black or white cabinet. The acoustically inert grille doesnít have the typical buzz and rattle found with other speakersí metal grilles. The speakerís magnetic shielding prevents distortion of the screen when it is used close to a television or computer monitor. For easy installation, the cabinet has integral mounts for M&Kís corner and wall mounting brackets and ST speaker stands, as well as a flush mount hanger.
